Tokosha Mountains. Denali National Park, Alaska. 1995.
11x14 Pigment Print on Rag paper
Near the end of a three-week journey to Alaska, my assistant Darin Steinberg and I stopped to look back at Denali from the south. It was good to see the mountain, as we had not seen it from Wonder Lake a few days before, but the real visual fascination was the range of cathedral-like spires of the Tokosha range. The color infrared I made was always envisioned as a black and white as represented here, using only the red channel.
I have often used this photograph as the test image as digital black and white printing technolgies have evolved. It is very unforgiving in its demand for rich blacks at the bottom end of the tonal scale and smooth tone transitions through light gray in the sky.
We're offering an 11x14 inch print, matted to 16x20 and ready to frame for $195, framed for an additional $75. This print at this price is offered through March 31. We'll be taking orders until then, and shipping them out by April 15th.
About the Program
Each month we offer a signed, original print, at a special price. This is a great opportunity to own a very affordable fine-art photograph. Orders are taken for a 30-day period, then printed and shipped within two weeks after the close. When it's over, it's over, these prints won't be available again at this price.
