The Digital National Parks Project
These digital photographs were made by Stephen Johnson between 1994 and 2001. With a New Eye: The Digital National Parks Project is a photographic survey of selected American National Parks, the first-ever major digital landscape photography project, making it a turning point in the history of photography.
The Prints
Original digital prints by Stephen Johnson are a sight to behold. Even for the many thousands who have read articles about his work, most are stunned when they see the clarity, detail and sutblty the actual prints.
The Photographer's Gallery introduction in 1998 stated: "Stephen Johnson's Photography rides on the bleeding edge of photography's transition to a digital media. Schooled in the traditions of fine-art western landscape photography, Johnson has taken his understanding of traditional photographic processes and brought those skills to bear on the emerging technologies and aesthetics of digital photography. He has worked with technology companies to achieve the best of what imagemaking can be, and pushed his own vision of how we see and record light in the natural world. This has led him to conclude that the way we have traditionally captured images with silver-based photography has been a poor and distortive view of the real and rich world before our eyes. His photographs look almost unphotographic in their clarity and purity of color. He shows us a world we know, but rarely see on paper. His is a truly remarkable vision."

Stephen Johnson Biography
Investing in Pigment Prints
Stephen has pioneered the use of pigment printers to create these stunning images. His use of archival, pigment-based inks brings these images into the realm of real, longterm collectability. These history making photographs can be enjoyed by the buyer who loves Stephen's work, and can be passed on for generations as longterm investments. Wilhelm Imaging, an independent test lab with extensive research in the area of photographic print permanence, has concluded that Stephen's paper/ink combinations should last more than 200 years.
